Log files are detailed text files (“.log” extension) that contain information such as placing and removing orders, errors and warnings, installing indicators and situations related to Expert Advisors, setting up a server connection, details about launching the terminal, and more. It is similar to the MT4/MT5‘Journal' tab, but with more detail. This data can be useful for examining how your orders were executed in more depth.

To reach and download Log Files from the desktop MT4/MT5 terminal, follow the below steps:

1. Launch the terminal.
2. Click on ‘File,’ then select ‘Open Data Folder’
3. You will then be able to see the Logs folder.

Please note: Every day has a separate log file, so you need to select the one you are looking for.

IMPORTANT: To get the Log Files for an Expert Advisor you can follow the above steps, however after the “Open Data Folder” step you will need to select “MQL4” for MetaTrader 4 or “MQL5” for MetaTrader 5 and then “Logs”.
